{"id":6448,"date":"2017-02-17T17:06:38","date_gmt":"2017-02-17T17:06:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/2017\/02\/20\/mayor-knox-white-to-speak-feb-22\/"},"modified":"2022-09-07T14:55:25","modified_gmt":"2022-09-07T18:55:25","slug":"mayor-knox-white-to-speak-feb-22","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/mayor-knox-white-to-speak-feb-22\/","title":{"rendered":"Mayor Knox White to speak on campus Feb. 22"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Knox White, mayor of the City of Greenville since 1995, will speak on the Furman University campus Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. in Watkins Room of the Trone Student Center.<\/p>\n<p>The talk, \u201cReimagining Greenville: A Discussion with Mayor Knox White,\u201d is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by Furman\u2019s Community Engagement Initiative as well as numerous Furman institutes and academic departments. The event is part of Furman\u2019s Cultural Life Program.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor White will discuss why Greenville&#8217;s downtown is widely recognized as one of the best in America, earning praise from sources including <em>Chicago Tribune<\/em>, <em>Travel and Leisure<\/em>, <em>National Geographic<\/em>, and \u201cOprah.\u201d The achievement is a credit to the community that banded together to build something special from a once declining city center.<\/p>\n<p>White will discuss the story of the deliberate effort by city and community leaders to develop successful, long lasting public-private partnerships and a vibrant community. White will detail the toil and tribulations that produced the world-class city we know as Greenville.<\/p>\n<p>The discussion will address Greenville\u2019s growth, development and evolving culture, providing important context about Greenville\u2019s past, present and future. Furman president Elizabeth Davis will introduce the mayor.
