The comedian is unable to get a flight out of New York. Tickets purchased by Furman faculty, staff, and students will be refunded in the FUSAB office (original ticket must be produced to receive a refund).\u00a0 FUSAB office hours are Monday and Wednesday from 1-4 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 pm. Members of the public should contact Ticketmaster regarding a refund. Furman apologizes for any inconvenience and is working to reschedule the Birbiglia show for a later date.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Furman University will host comedian Mike Birbiglia on campus Thursday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAn Evening with Mike Birbiglia,\u201d is presented by Furman University Student Activities Board (FUSAB). His performance is open to the public.\u00a0Tickets are $3 with a valid Furman ID at the FUSAB office. Tickets are $15 for the general public and are available through Ticketmaster. \u00a0They will also be available at the door the night of the performance.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Birbiglia is a comedian, writer, actor and director known for his highly personal approach to comedy. Described as one of the busiest working comedians, he serves as creator, writer and star of the film <em>Don\u2019t Think Twice<\/em> which was released in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>He was recently seen in the fourth season of Netflix\u2019s <em>Orange is the New Black<\/em> and Universal Pictures\u2019 <em>Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping<\/em>. Birbiglia also recently completed a 100-city tour with his stand-up show, \u201cThank God for Jokes,\u201d which he later parlayed into an Off-Broadway run at The Lynn Redgrave Theater.<\/p>\n<p>Birbiglia came onto the scene in 2012 with his Sundance award-winning directorial debut <em>Sleepwalk With Me<\/em>. Birbiglia started as a stand-up comedian and has reached the height of his field\u2014an international touring solo theater act, which blends elements of theater, film, storytelling, and stand-up comedy.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, his work has appeared on National Public Radio\u2019s \u201cThis American Life,\u201d where he began a collaboration with host and producer Ira Glass. Birbiglia\u2019s first one-man show \u201cSleepwalk With Me\u201d was presented by Broadway legend Nathan Lane. His second one-man show \u201cMy Girlfriend\u2019s Boyfriend\u201d won the Lucille Lortel Award for outstanding solo show and toured concert halls around the world.<\/p>\n<p>His literary debut <em>Sleepwalk with Me &amp; Other Painfully True Stories<\/em> was a <em>New York Times<\/em> bestseller and was a finalist for the Thurber Prize for American Humor.<\/p>\n<p>As an actor, Birbiglia has appeared in <em>Orange is the New Black<\/em> and HBO\u2019s <em>Girls<\/em> as well as in films <em>Trainwreck<\/em>, <em>The Fault in Our Stars<\/em>, <em>Digging For Fire<\/em>, <em>Adult Beginners<\/em>, <em>Cedar Rapids<\/em>, <em>Going the Distance<\/em> and <em>Your Sister\u2019s Sister<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, contact the Furman&#8217;s Student Activities office at 864-294-2068.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UPDATE: Because of unexpected travel delays in the Northeast due to winter storm Niko, Furman&#8217;s comedy show with Mike Birbiglia on Feb. 9 has been cancelled.
