{"id":6271,"date":"2016-11-14T20:08:16","date_gmt":"2016-11-15T01:08:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/2017\/01\/06\/one-night-on-broadway\/"},"modified":"2022-11-06T20:29:38","modified_gmt":"2022-11-07T01:29:38","slug":"one-night-on-broadway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/one-night-on-broadway\/","title":{"rendered":"One night on Broadway"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It was an unforgettable weekend for sixteen Furman Singers who traveled to New York City to perform\u00a0at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre with Kristin Chenoweth in her one-woman show,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/kristinonbroadway.com\"><em>My\u00a0Love Letter to Broadway<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Singers&#8217; first appearance on Broadway was facilitated by Chenoweth&#8217;s music director and\u00a0Furman alumna Mary-Mitchell Campbell \u201996. On Saturday morning,\u00a0Campbell led a\u00a0two-hour\u00a0rehearsal, a brief master class and Q&amp;A at Pearl Studios\u00a0on\u00a08th Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>The students sang\u00a0two numbers with Chenoweth, in the grand finales of both the first and second acts.\u00a0And after the curtain fell, the Singers,\u00a0Director Hugh Ferguson Floyd, Furman President Elizabeth Davis and her husband Charles, had the opportunity to meet\u00a0the Broadway star.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond the thrill of performing on Broadway, the student singers\u00a0got\u00a0a rare first-hand look at the music business. \u201cThis is what I call the Furman Advantage,\u201d says Floyd. \u201cIt\u2019s the sense that the students are learning to connect the skill set they\u2019re developing in college with the way the actual professional world works.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/academics\/music\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Furman Music Department<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It was an unforgettable weekend for sixteen Furman Singers who traveled to New York City to perform\u00a0at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre with Kristin Chenoweth in her one-woman show,\u00a0My\u00a0Love Letter to Broadway.
