She has sung leading roles around the world, and she gained national attention for singing two different roles at the Metropolitan Opera in a single day. She has sung the title role in Poul Ruders\u2019s opera \u201cThe Handmaid\u2019s Tale\u201d at the Minnesota Opera, and has been featured in the national PBS broadcast of Conrad Susa\u2019s \u201cThe Dangerous Liaisons.\u201d\u00a0 Now that she\u2019s returning to the Washington National Opera in its upcoming \u201cThe Marriage of Figaro,\u201d <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/entertainment\/music\/elizabeth-bishop-shows-that-in-opera-success-is-quite-different-from-stardom\/2016\/09\/15\/ee29dc38-7a66-11e6-a482-61b767c17607_story.html\">The Washington Post<\/a><\/em><\/strong> wrote about the mezzo-soprano who is the \u201cepitome of what success actually looks like.\u201d Bishop doubled majored in music and political science at Furman.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Elizabeth Bishop, a 1989 Furman graduate, has a resume many opera singers can only dream of.
