The writer, Ian Gill, found Harris\u2019 research online about the modern Chinese postal service (1896-1949), which mentioned Gill\u2019s grandfather in a footnote.\u00a0 After being contacted by Gill and spending about six hours researching various postal archival records, Harris gave the writer what he needed.\u00a0 The resulting story was published in the <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.scmp.com\/magazines\/post-magazine\/article\/1947270\/my-grandfathers-amazing-life-china-and-how-he-found-my\">South China Morning Post Magazine.<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Research by Lane Harris, an Asian Studies and history professor at Furman, helped a writer learn more about his grandfather\u2019s life in China.
