Furman University’s Danielle Vinson commented on U.S. Senate and presidential politics in articles appearing in The Herald and The Greenville News. In The Herald<\/a>, Vinson said the Senate race between Democrat Annie Andrews and Republican Darline Graham will be a tougher road for the GOP candidate than it would’ve been for Graham’s brother, Lindsey Graham, who died suddenly on July 11.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think Lindsey Graham could have probably mostly coasted,\u201d said Vinson, a professor of politics and international affairs. \u201cI think Darline Graham is going to have to work a little bit harder. Lindsey Graham would not have been making missteps on the campaign trail, and nobody would have been questioning, \u2018Did he know enough?'” Vinson also addressed Graham’s position on upcoming debates.<\/p>\n

In The Greenville News<\/a>, Vinson noted that the Democratic National Committee’s selection of South Carolina as an early presidential primary state could result in renewed energy for the party in the perennially red state. “One of the challenges is getting people to turn out,” Vinson said. “If (Democrats) turn out in the primary and start to see there\u2019s energy and enthusiasm … once they participate, they might be more likely to do so the next time.”<\/p>\n
