Flock cameras are a type of Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) used by law enforcement to track those who break the law, to support AMBER Alerts or missing person searches, and other applications. But the databases fed by the cameras have been used by public safety personnel for unofficial purposes. Mond\u00e9, a professor of sociology who specializes in the criminal justice system, said, &#8220;The reality is, we as citizens want to know what our data is being used for.&#8221; She commented on how South Carolina is addressing the potential for the mishandling of data on roughly 1,400 cameras installed throughout the state.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mond\u00e9 specializes in the criminal justice system.
