The event is also part of Furman\u2019s Cultural Life Program.<\/p>\n<p>Lilla joined the faculty at Columbia University after holding professorships at New York University and the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>A frequent contributor to the <em>New York Review of Books<\/em>, the <em>New Republic<\/em>, and the <em>New York Times<\/em>, Lilla is best known for his books <em>The Reckless Mind: Intellectuals in Politics<\/em> and <em>The Stillborn God: Religion, Politics, and the Modern West<\/em>. <em>The Stillborn God<\/em> was named one of the &#8220;100 best books of the year&#8221; by <em>The New York Times Book Review<\/em> and one of the 150 best books of the year by <em>Publisher&#8217;s Weekly<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Lilla has delivered the Weizmann Memorial Lecture in Israel, the Carlyle Lectures at Oxford University, and the MacMillan Lectures on Religion, Politics, and Society at Yale University. Lilla holds a Master of Public Policy degree from Harvard&#8217;s John F.
