Vinson, a Furman alum and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/academics\/politics-international-affairs\/\">professor of politics and international affairs<\/a>, said the special election Aug. 11 holds challenges for candidates who need to sway voters in a short amount of time. \u201cThey are going to need to do advertising pretty much anywhere that you can advertise, they need to be doing it, they are going to need to be able to do mailings, because they aren\u2019t going to have the time to generate a lot of free media coverage by traveling the state,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>As for Graham Nordone&#8217;s chances, Vinson said it remains to be seen.\u00a0&#8220;I think we really would need to hear more from her to figure out if (Sen. Graham) is a quick frontrunner. There are other people, both Norman and Fry have a good base of support in their congressional districts. Norman did expand that somewhat in his efforts to run for statewide office in the earlier primary.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Vinson regularly speaks to news sources near and far about politics.
