{"id":42490,"date":"2026-05-28T17:03:57","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T21:03:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/?p=42490"},"modified":"2026-05-28T17:04:24","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T21:04:24","slug":"furman-wins-best-mens-and-womens-athletic-programs-at-the-socon-league-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/furman-wins-best-mens-and-womens-athletic-programs-at-the-socon-league-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"Furman wins best men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s athletic programs at the SoCon league meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"282\">Furman Athletics reached a historic milestone this week as the Paladins claimed both the <a href=\"https:\/\/furmanpaladins.com\/news\/2026\/5\/27\/general-purple-reign-furman-wins-socon-commissoner-germann-cups.aspx\">Southern Conference Commissioner\u2019s Cup and Germann Cup<\/a> in the same academic year for the first time in program history, underscoring the department\u2019s excellence across men\u2019s and women\u2019s sports.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"284\" data-end=\"643\">Announced at the league\u2019s annual meeting in Hilton Head, S.C., the honor marks Furman\u2019s third overall Commissioner\u2019s Cup title \u2014 and second this decade \u2014 recognizing the SoCon\u2019s top men\u2019s athletics program. The Paladins have also finished runner-up 10 times since the award was established in 1970, the most titles among the conference\u2019s private institutions.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"645\" data-end=\"1003\">On the women\u2019s side, Furman continued its long-standing dominance by capturing its 18th Germann Cup, far and away the highest total in Southern Conference history. Named in honor of former commissioner Ken Germann, the award recognizes the league\u2019s top women\u2019s athletics program.
