Self Professor of Business and Accounting and chair of the business and accounting department. She teaches the intermediate financial accounting sequence, where she focuses not only on technical content but also on career preparation and the importance of civic professionalism. In the series’ final course, students complete a service-learning project preparing free tax returns for low-income taxpayers through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

“2026 marks the 15th year that Furman students have participated in this program, and they invariably come away from this experience with not only enhanced professional skills” but a newfound appreciation and understanding of a professional’s role in their community, Roberson said.

Before joining Furman, Roberson spent 17 years as a professional accountant, manager and controller. Her practical experience enhances her ability to teach accounting, relating classroom lessons to real-world scenarios and helping students understand the practical applications of what they learn. Industry experience also helps her engage with students as an advisor, and in 2006 Roberson won Furman’s Alester G. Furman Jr. and Janie Earle Furman Award for Meritorious Advising.

Roberson holds bachelor’s degrees in accounting and political science from Fairmont State College, and a Master of Professional Accountancy from West Virginia University. She is a Certified Public Accountant, heading professional committees and serving on the board of examiners of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Professor Roberson, chair of the Business and Accounting department, is this year’s Excellence in Teaching Award recipient from South Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities.

[20,3269

post-42107","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-business-and-accounting","category-honors-and-awards
["GET
