Furman University biology alum Brendan Talwar \u201911 and fellow marine biologist Chris Malinowski appeared as guests on WSPA 7News’ “Your Carolina”<\/a> with host and Furman alum Jamarcus Gaston ’09 (communication studies and music).<\/p>\n

Talwar and Malinowski spoke via Zoom about their goals following their stint on Netflix series “All the Sharks”<\/a> where teams compete to photograph rays and sharks in ecosystems all over the globe. They talk about what drove them to the world of sharks and the reality TV program.<\/p>\n

Talwar gives a shoutout to the Furman Biology Department<\/a> for bringing him experiences in the field such as a trip to Belize to study tropical coral reefs, and Wild Semester<\/a>, a program in the New Mexico deserts led by Furman Biology Professor Travis Perry<\/a>. “[Wild Semester] instilled in me a conservation ethic and gave me some of the scientific tools to apply to the real world and solve some of the pressing environmental problems that we now face,” Talwar said.<\/p>\n

Now the researchers are focused on educating the world about sharks and rays and conservation efforts through Sharkdocs.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n
