Mike Buddie, Furman’s athletic director, was a pitcher in Major League Baseball for five years.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

Furman athletic director Mike Buddie was a pitcher for the 1998 New York Yankees team that won the World Series. He has taken the mound against fearsome hitters like Barry Bonds and Sammy Sosa. He even taught actor Kevin Costner how to pitch like a major leaguer in the movie, \u201cFor Love of the Game.\u201d<\/p>\n

Buddie will talk about those experiences and more when he speaks at the university\u2019s High Noon fall lecture series Wednesday, Nov. 4 at noon at the Upcountry History Museum-Furman.<\/p>\n

His talk, \u201cA Major League Legacy,\u201d is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

Buddie, who joined Furman this summer as athletic director, spent five seasons as a pitcher in Major League Baseball. In addition to discussing his aspirations for Furman\u2019s athletic program, Buddie will share tales about his days in the major leagues and what it\u2019s like to stand 60 feet, six inches from the most feared hitters on the planet.<\/p>\n

Buddie\u2019s talk is the sixth of seven consecutive High Noon lectures presented during the fall series. \u00a0All are free and begin at noon on Wednesdays.<\/p>\n

The Upcountry History Museum\/Furman is located at 540 Buncombe Street in downtown Greenville\u2019s Heritage Green area.<\/p>\n
