Faculty may elect to conduct remote instruction for morning classes.\u00a0 Likewise, faculty who teach in the afternoon and are unable to get to campus safely may also elect to teach remotely.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">We understand that some students may still be facing challenges due to the winter storm. Students who are unable to return or may be delayed should email <u><a href=\"mailto:academic.deans@furman.edu\" data-outlook-id=\"5d3325b8-f8b4-42d1-bc76-b067bd6e3fde\">academic.deans@furman.edu<\/a><\/u>\u00a0and notify their professors.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Students will receive a separate update from Student Life with additional updates regarding campus services, hours, and resources.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Temperatures will continue to drop below freezing in the evening and early morning hours over the next few days, potentially creating icy conditions on roads and walkways. Please continue to exercise caution as you move around campus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we work to ensure the safety of our campus community.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATED ON SATURDAY, JAN. 31 AT 5:45 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Furman University will be closed to the public on Sunday, Feb. 1. All Furman sanctioned, off-campus student events are canceled. At this time, on-campus student events are permitted to continue as planned. Student Life will communicate directly with students if changing conditions require any on-campus events to be cancelled.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Students are strongly encouraged to refrain from operating motor vehicles until conditions improve. Please exercise heightened caution when navigating campus on foot.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-claude-response-body break-words whitespace-normal leading-[1.7]\">Employees required to work on campus during a campus closure will be notified by their departments. The safety and well-being of students and employees always come first.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATED ON FRIDAY, JAN. 30 AT 3:37 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for our area from Friday at 4 p.m. through Sunday morning at 7 a.m. The forecast calls for heavy snow, with total accumulations between 2 and 7 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. These conditions could make many roads impassable and may produce isolated power outages.<\/p>\n<p><b>Furman University will be closed to the public on Saturday, Jan. 31.<\/b>\u00a0All Furman sanctioned, off-campus student events are cancelled. \u00a0At this time, on-campus student events are permitted to continue as planned. \u00a0Student Life will communicate directly with students if changing conditions require any on-campus events to be cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>Employees required to work on campus during a campus closure will be notified by their departments. The safety and well-being of students and employees always come first.<\/p>\n<p>UPDATED ON JAN. 29 AT 2:25 p.m.:<\/p>\n<p>Furman University&#8217;s Emergency Response Team is closely monitoring a winter storm expected to impact the Upstate this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for our area\u00a0from Friday afternoon through Sunday morning, with the onset for our area currently expected\u00a0around 8 p.m. Friday. The forecast calls for heavy snow, with total accumulations between 2 and 7 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph. These conditions could make many roads impassable and may produce isolated power outages.<\/p>\n<p>At this time, the university expects to operate on a normal schedule Friday. We will provide updates about weekend operations as the forecast develops.<\/p>\n<p>The ERT will continue to monitor conditions communicate any necessary changes to university plans.
