The safety and well-being of students and employees always comes first.<\/p>\n UPDATED ON THURSDAY, JAN. 22 AT 8:45 p.m.:<\/p>\n Due to the impending winter storm, Furman University will be closed from Saturday, Jan. 24, through Monday, Jan. 26. All classes and on-campus events are cancelled during this time.<\/p>\n According to the latest National Weather Service forecast, 0.5-0.75 inches of ice accumulation is expected, along with a wintry mix of rain, snow, and sleet. These conditions are likely to cause treacherous travel and widespread power outages across the Upstate.<\/p>\n We are announcing this closure now so that students and families have time to make plans ahead of the storm.<\/p>\n Employees required to work on campus during a campus closure will be notified by their departments. Other employees should not report to work on campus during a campus closure (see Emergency Campus Closure policy<\/a><\/u>).<\/p>\n The Dining Hall will remain open for students only with limited hours. Any adjustments to the hours of operations will be communicated directly to students each day.<\/p>\n Saferide will not be operating on Saturday or Sunday night. The safety and well-being of students and employees always comes first.<\/p>\n FIRST UPDATE ON THURSDAY, JAN. 22 AT 12:07 p.m.:<\/p>\n Furman University\u2019s Emergency Response Team is closely monitoring a winter storm expected to impact the Upstate this weekend.<\/span><\/p>\n The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for our area from Saturday morning through Monday afternoon. The forecast calls for heavy mixed precipitation, with 1-3 inches of snow and sleet and up to one inch of ice accumulation possible. These conditions could cause widespread power outages and make roads treacherous.<\/p>\n At this time, the university expects to operate on a normal schedule Friday. We will provide updates about weekend and Monday operations as the forecast develops.<\/p>\n The ERT will monitor conditions throughout the weekend and communicate any changes to university plans.
