In concert with researchers at Furman&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/shi-institute\/\">Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities<\/a>, Kolb is looking at rising property values in Northside where the median price per square foot has increased by 70% in seven years. That&#8217;s good news for homeowners, but not so much for those who rent and typically renegotiate leases on an annual basis.<\/p>\n<p>Kolb told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.postandcourier.com\/spartanburg\/news\/property-values-spartanburg-northside-rising\/article_90b2f60f-acfe-4f8c-809e-32d05f087339.html?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=email&amp;utm_campaign=user-share\">The Post and Courier<\/a> the research is important so the neighborhood can make informed decisions about its future. \u201cWe\u2019re not telling residents what they should do or how they should respond to development,\u201d he said. \u201cBut rather trying to explain to them the current demographic and economic state of the neighborhood, so that they can ask good questions.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The word &#8220;gentrification&#8221; can strike fear in the hearts of longtime Northside residents, particularly those who rent.
