The JCRC&#8217;s Breslau-Goldman Award recognizes individuals who have devoted a \u201clifetime of service\u201d to the Washington, D.C., area and made a \u201csignificant contribution\u201d to the group&#8217;s goals.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonjewishweek.com\/david-and-june-trone-to-receive-jcrcs-highest-award\/\">Washington Jewish Week<\/a>, the Trones were lauded for their support for Israel and efforts to combat antisemitism. The Trones have also lent support to hospitals and other institutions that benefit society more broadly, the publication noted.<\/p>\n<p>At Furman, the name appears on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/campus-life\/trone-student-center\/\">Trone Student Center<\/a>, which was refurbished with the help of a 2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/trone-student-center-dedication\/\">donation of $3.5 million<\/a> from the Trones, and, through a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/congressman-david-trone-and-wife-june-give-furman-10-million-to-support-mental-health-hillel\/\">$10 million gift<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/counseling-center\/\">Trone Center for Mental Fitness<\/a> was expanded and named. A portion the same gift bolstered the Hillel Endowment Fund in support of Furman&#8217;s Jewish Student Association.<\/p>\n<p>Furman Board of Trustees Emeritus, David Trone is founder and former president and CEO of Total Wine and More, the nation&#8217;s largest independent retailer of wine, beer and spirits. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2019 to 2025, representing Maryland&#8217;s 6th congressional district. He holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>June Trone earned a degree in engineering from Stony Brook University and worked at Scott Paper Company for five years as both a process engineer and industrial engineer. She also holds an MBA from the Wharton School. A champion of Jewish causes, she serves on the boards of JCRC and the Jewish Electoral Institute.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Trone name is synonymous with philanthropy at Furman University.
