Photo by Owen Withycombe, Furman University.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Students ran the show, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/people\/ilka-rasch\/\">Ilka Rasch<\/a>, associate professor of German at Furman, enlisting her \u201cGerman for the Professions\u201d class to plan and promote the event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey helped design flyers, programs, table cards, badges, they helped with recruitment, logistics and served as moderators for the panel of experts and the roundtables,\u201d Rasch said. \u201cThe day of the conference we got help from another 16 students from Clemson and Furman to run it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zachary Jones \u201926, a German studies and economics double major from Columbia, S.C., was helping guide guests into Younts for the event. He attended <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/furman-among-colleges-hosting-first-upstate-euro-american-business-conference\/\">last year\u2019s forum<\/a> where he connected with Thomas G\u00f6sswein, CEO of energy company FENECON International, and landed an internship he hopes will become a post-graduate job in the summer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe spoke in detail about energy vulnerability and instability in Europe, especially as it related to Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine,\u201d Jones said. \u201cWhen else will you have a chance to hear a panel with the heads of multi-million or billion-dollar companies? Photo by Owen Withycombe, Furman University.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>AI ethicist and author of \u201cResponsible AI\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oliviagambelin.com\/\">Olivia Gambelin<\/a> gave the keynote speech framing the day\u2019s theme of how AI can benefit a workplace while enabling and empowering employees.
