Levenson Jr. will present some of the American stories of faith he\u2019s collected throughout the years in his new book, \u201cWitness to Belief: Conversations on Faith and Meaning,\u201d at The Poinsett Club, 807 E. Washington St., Greenville.<\/p>\n<p>The ordained Episcopal priest and author will sign books at 5 p.m., with his presentation beginning at 6 p.m. The event is sponsored by the American History Book Club and Forum and Furman University.<\/p>\n<p>For information and to purchase tickets for $50, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/american-history-book-club\/\">furman.edu\/ahbc<\/a> email <a href=\"mailto:ahbc@furman.edu\">ahbc@furman.edu<\/a> or call 864-294-3351. Proceeds from ticket sales support the work of two area teachers and a local student through the A.V. and Kate Huff History Scholars awards.<\/p>\n<p>The award winners will also be recognized at the event. The awards are named for A.V. Huff, a former Furman professor, dean and vice president of academic affairs, and his wife Kate Huff, a former elementary school teacher.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s winner of the A.V. Huff History Scholars Award is Furman student Pender Raymond \u201927, from Richmond, Virginia. A history and vocal performance double major, she will continue her work with Distinguished University Public Historian and Scholar Courtney Tollison Hartness \u201999 on exhibits commemorating Furman\u2019s bicentennial. When Raymond graduates she plans to pursue a career in public history.<\/p>\n<p>The Kate Huff History Scholars award goes to area teachers to support class history projects or field trips. This year\u2019s recipients are Sarah Brower \u201922 M\u201923 of Spartanburg, South Carolina and Tyler Lininger \u201921 M\u201922, of Simpsonville, South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>A fourth grade teacher at Fairforest Elementary in Spartanburg, Brower will use the grant to take her students on a field trip to examine Revolutionary War battles in the Upstate of South Carolina, where they can discover the hardships of life during wartime.<\/p>\n<p>Lininger is a social studies teacher at Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville and will use the grant to purchase resources to support his ninth grade students in completing projects on United States immigration policy.<\/p>\n<p>Levenson\u2019s books include \u201cWitness to Dignity,\u201d \u201cIn God\u2019s Grip,\u201d and \u201cA Path to Wholeness.\u201d His latest book invites readers into the spiritual lives and Christian faiths of 12 actors, artists and public figures who shared how their faiths have informed their values, fueled their creativity and anchored them through pressures and challenges.<\/p>\n<p>An ordained Episcopal priest for more than 30 years, Levenson has been a spiritual advisor to thousands and is a frequent guest on many network news programs, providing Christian insight and commentary.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Russell J.
