{"id":39316,"date":"2025-09-05T12:48:14","date_gmt":"2025-09-05T16:48:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/?p=39316"},"modified":"2025-09-05T15:51:04","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T19:51:04","slug":"furmans-sga-president-mariam-nguyen-26-encourages-early-decision","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/furmans-sga-president-mariam-nguyen-26-encourages-early-decision\/","title":{"rendered":"Furman\u2019s SGA President Mariam Nguyen &#8217;26 encourages Early Decision"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While the Class of 2029 is settling into their first year at Furman University, the president of the Student Government Association Mariam Nguyen \u201926 has advice for prospective students: Apply early.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would definitely recommend applying early decision, especially if you\u2019re confident you want to go to Furman.\u201d She found Furman\u2019s application process easy, and this year there are incentives for students accepted through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/admissions-aid\/early-decision-at-furman\/\">Early Decision<\/a>, with a Nov. 1 deadline.<\/p>\n<p>Students applying Early Decision receive priority consideration for merit scholarships, an early financial aid estimate and the peace of mind of hearing back sooner, by Nov. 15. After an elaborate dap on the stage of McAlester Auditorium with Furman University President Elizabeth Davis, Nguyen, a politics and international affairs major from Charleston, South Carolina, welcomed the incoming first-year students at Furman\u2019s Convocation ceremony Aug. 25.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether you came here from down the road in Greenville, across the country, or across the ocean, you\u2019ve made it,\u201d she told them.<\/p>\n<h3>Welcome (back) to Furman<\/h3>\n<p>Nguyen has certainly made her mark at Furman, participating in engaged learning that\u2019s available to every student. Prior to greeting the first-year students, Nguyen had a busy summer. She joined a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/academics\/may-experience\/\">MayX study-away trip<\/a> to South Africa to learn about the history of apartheid and its dismantling, then spent time in Nairobi, Kenya, where her mother teaches as a professor.
