It is available Sept. 9.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Selingo includes Furman University in a list of \u201cThe New Dream Schools,\u201d universities with excellent academics that are more accessible than \u201celite\u201d schools.<\/p>\n<p>He says there are four critical components of a dream school:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a supportive start, like Furman&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/furman-advantage\/pathways-program\/\">Pathways Program<\/a>,<\/li>\n<li>easy connections among people, like those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/student-life\/\">Student Life<\/a> provides, so students feel like they belong,<\/li>\n<li>real job experiences through internships, research and other programs tied to career paths \u2013 Furman does that through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/undergraduate-research\/\">undergraduate research<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/internships\/\">internship office<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/career-services\/\">Malone Center<\/a>, our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/alumni\/\">Alumni office<\/a> and other programs, and<\/li>\n<li>resources to invest in students, like summer stipends and programs like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/on-discourse\/\">On Discourse<\/a> or the career and internship fair we held last week.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In praise for Furman, which will celebrate its bicentennial in 2026, the author mentions the Pathways Program and the more than 90% participation in engaged learning, such as research, internships and study away. He also mentions that four members of the class of 2022 won Fulbright Awards, and students who landed jobs with well-known employers such as Michelin, Wells Fargo and EY.<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth Davis, president of Furman University, and Beth Pontari, Furman&#8217;s vice president for Academic Affairs and provost, were interviewed for the book.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJeffrey Selingo has long been a thought-leader in the higher education space, providing valuable insight for students and their families, and higher education professionals,\u201d said Emily Schuck, vice president for enrollment management at Furman. \u201cWe are delighted that he and his team recognized the value and excellence of a Furman education. It\u2019s an honor to be included in &#8216;Dream School.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDream School,\u201d a follow-up to Selingo\u2019s New York Times bestseller \u201cWho Gets In and Why,\u201d helps readers take an honest look at which colleges are best for them, and which are realistically attainable.
