Councilmember Christina Henderson, a 2008 Furman University political science alumna, spoke with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/08\/18\/nx-s1-5503594\/d-c-councilmember-christina-henderson-discusses-national-guard-presence\">NPR<\/a> &#8220;Morning Edition&#8221; host Leila Fadel about President Donald Trump&#8217;s move to bring National Guard troops to the district. Henderson, an independent who serves on the Furman Board of Trustees, said the action by the president is a &#8220;manufactured emergency to distract Americans from other pressing national issues of concern.&#8221; She also said the move is &#8220;an effort to provoke the residents of the district into some violent act&#8221; to justify the presence of the troops from Ohio, South Carolina and West Virginia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>D.C.
