Mahoney, Professor of Political Science at Assumption College (Worcester, Mass.), will speak on the Furman University campus Thursday, April 9, at 5 p.m. in Watkins Room of the Trone Student Center.<\/p>\n<p>His talk, &#8220;Christianity and the Religion of Humanity,&#8221; is presented by Furman\u2019s Ernest J. Walters, Jr. Lecture Series in Political Thought, the Tocqueville Program, and the Political Thought Club. The event is free and open to the public, and is part of the university\u2019s Cultural Life Program.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Mahoney\u2019s areas of scholarly expertise include statesmanship, religion and politics, French political philosophy, and antitotalitarian thought. He currently serves as the Augustine Chair in Distinguished Scholarship at Assumption College.<\/p>\n<p>Mahoney is the author of books about Raymond Aron, Charles de Gaulle, Bertrand de Jouvenel, and Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, and has also edited or co-edited many books. His most recent books include <em>The Conservative Foundations of the Liberal Order<\/em> and <em>The Other Solzhenitsyn.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>His essays, articles, and reviews have appeared in a wide range of public and scholarly journals in the United States and abroad. In 1999, he was the recipient of the Prix Raymond Aron, an award named after the distinguished French political thinker who renewed Tocqueville&#8217;s conservative-minded liberalism and vigorously opposed totalitarianism in all its forms.<\/p>\n<p>Mahoney holds a bachelor\u2019s from the College of the Holy Cross and a master\u2019s and doctorate from Catholic University.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, contact Furman\u2019s News and Media Relations office at (864) 294-3107.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Daniel J.
