Robert Lupton<\/p><\/div>\n

Robert\u00a0Lupton, author of Toxic Charity<\/em> and founder of FCS Urban Ministries in Atlanta, will deliver the Peggy and Ed Good Lecture at Furman University Tuesday, April 7 at 7 p.m. in Daniel Chapel.<\/p>\n

Lupton\u2019s talk, \u201cToxic Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help and How to Reverse It,\u201d is free and open to the public.\u00a0 It is presented by the Cothran Center for Vocational Reflection at Furman.<\/p>\n

Copies of his book, Toxic Charity<\/em>, will also be available for purchase and signing. \u00a0The lecture was rescheduled after Lupton’s February visit to campus was cancelled due to bad weather.<\/p>\n

A Christian community developer who brings together communities of resource with communities of need, Lupton has worked in urban Atlanta for more than four decades.\u00a0 Through FCS Urban Ministries, he has developed two mixed income subdivisions, organized a multi-racial congregation, started a number of businesses, created housing for hundreds of families and initiated a wide range of human services in the community.<\/p>\n

Lupton\u2019s other books include Theirs is the Kingdom<\/em>, Renewing the City<\/em>, and Compassion, Justice, and the Christian Life: Rethinking Ministry to the Poor<\/em>.\u00a0 He has a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Georgia and regularly speaks with groups around the country about his work and writings.<\/p>\n

Each year, the Peggy and Ed Good Lectureship brings nationally and internationally significant theologians, public servants, thinkers and writers to the Furman campus.<\/p>\n
