Dr. Wade Worthen<\/p><\/div>\n

Furman University biology professor Wade Worthen will examine the state of scientific literacy in America when he opens the university\u2019s High Noon spring lecture series Wednesday, March 18 at the Upcountry History Museum-Furman.<\/p>\n

The lecture, \u201cScience is Hard, Boring, and I Don\u2019t Believe It: The Scary State of Science Literacy in the U. S.,\u201d begins at noon.\u00a0 It is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

Worthen\u2019s talk is the first of four consecutive lectures presented by Furman professors during the spring. All lectures are free and begin at noon on Wednesdays.<\/p>\n

Some think science is a set of facts about obscure things that have little impact on their daily lives. Others see science as opinion, something that is always changing and therefore unreliable.\u00a0 Dr. Worthen will discuss what science is, what it is not, and why it is important to know the difference\u2014using evolution and climate change as examples.<\/p>\n

The Upcountry History Museum\/Furman is located at 540 Buncombe Street in downtown Greenville\u2019s Heritage Green area.<\/p>\n
