Nelsen, the Jane Fishburne Hipp Professor of Politics and International Affairs, spoke about Carter&#8217;s rise to the presidency as an &#8220;outsider&#8221; from South Georgia. Nelsen commented on Carter&#8217;s legacy following his tenure in office, marked by his work to promote free and fair elections around the world and his involvement building homes for the poor &#8211; &#8220;using his fame to help other people,&#8221; Nelsen said.
