{"id":35623,"date":"2024-12-17T12:22:24","date_gmt":"2024-12-17T17:22:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/?p=35623"},"modified":"2024-12-17T18:41:58","modified_gmt":"2024-12-17T23:41:58","slug":"furmans-thomas-comments-on-sc-department-of-educations-prageru-content","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/furmans-thomas-comments-on-sc-department-of-educations-prageru-content\/","title":{"rendered":"Furman&#8217;s Thomas comments on SC Department of Education&#8217;s PragerU content"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During the 2022 mid-term elections, South Carolina ushered in a new superintendent of education, and with that, a new set of education resources from PragerU, a nonprofit media company that promotes conservative views on various political, economic and social issues.<\/p>\n<p>Superintendent Ellen Weaver oversaw the posting of <a href=\"https:\/\/ed.sc.gov\/newsroom\/strategic-engagement\/prageru-standards-aligned-resources\/\">&#8220;PragerU Standards Aligned Resources&#8221;<\/a> on the South Carolina Department of Education website. Some educators say the set of short, K-12 social studies videos are biased or contain errors. Furman University&#8217;s Paul Thomas, Education professor and former K-12 educator, said the addition of the content by the Department of Education without a formal agreement in place was a &#8220;pure political move&#8221; when he spoke to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.postandcourier.com\/education-lab\/sc-education-portal-prageru-conservative-content-resource\/article_8a52542e-b676-11ef-b21c-af58fd76aa44.html#newsletter-popup\">The Post and Courier&#8217;s<\/a> Anna B.
