Furman University received two Green Globes<\/a> from the Green Building Initiative for work in efficiency and environmental impact reduction during the construction of Lakeview Hall.<\/p>\n

Renovations of the South Housing<\/a> First-Year Student Village began in 2022. The new $27.6 million Lakeview Hall<\/a> was designed with student experiences and communities in mind. But Lakeview was designed with sustainability and environmental stewardship in mind, said Associate Dean of Students and Director of Housing and Residence Life Ron Thompson.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis achievement underscores our dedication to creating a residence hall that not only provides a healthy and energy-efficient space for our students, but also aligns with our mission to support a sustainable future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

From the insulation used in the attic, the LED lighting, water saving devices, energy recovery on air delivery devices and 98% efficient water heaters, efficiency was key in the renovation, said Construction Project Manager Ty Bowling.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe construction phase of buildings is the most important time to consider the long-term impact of materials, energy use and waste generation,\u201d said Laura Bain, associate director of sustainability assessment at The Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities. \u201cAchieving this green building certification demonstrates Furman\u2019s commitment to reducing our environmental impact and creating a healthier environment for students and staff.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
