{"id":34166,"date":"2024-09-24T06:38:29","date_gmt":"2024-09-24T10:38:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/?p=34166"},"modified":"2024-09-24T06:38:29","modified_gmt":"2024-09-24T10:38:29","slug":"furman-university-again-ranks-among-u-s-news-best-colleges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/furman-university-again-ranks-among-u-s-news-best-colleges\/","title":{"rendered":"Furman University again ranks among U.S. News \u2018Best Colleges\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/\">Furman University<\/a> is among the most innovative universities in the country and offers one of the best experiences for first-year students, according to this year\u2019s U.S. News &amp; World Report <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usnews.com\/best-colleges\/furman-university-3434\/overall-rankings\">\u201cBest Colleges\u201d<\/a> rankings, which were released today.<\/p>\n<p>Among national liberal arts and sciences universities, Furman ranks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>45<sup>th<\/sup> overall, up one spot from last year<\/li>\n<li>7<sup>th<\/sup> most innovative<\/li>\n<li>17<sup>th<\/sup> in best undergraduate teaching programs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Among all universities in the country, Furman ranks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>22<sup>nd<\/sup> for best first-year experience (above Yale, Michigan, Auburn and other schools)<\/li>\n<li>32<sup>nd<\/sup> for best undergraduate research program (tied with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Furman is the seventh-ranked liberal arts and sciences university in the South, and the highest ranked university in South Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>The overall ranking is a calculation of several factors, including graduation rate, student-faculty ratio and reputation. The category rankings are decided by university presidents, provosts and deans of admissions who are asked to list the top schools that come to mind in the respective categories.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFurman\u2019s perennial place among the best universities in the country is a testament to our staff and faculty who continually innovate ways of making a Furman education meaningful and valuable, and to our thoughtful, conscientious and hard-working students who succeed here and after they graduate,\u201d said Furman University President Elizabeth Davis.<\/p>\n<p>The university\u2019s rankings in undergraduate research, student experiences, innovation and teaching reflect the aims of its strategic plan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/strategic-plan\/\">FUture Focused<\/a>, which was approved by the Board of Trustees earlier this year. The plan articulates the university\u2019s commitment to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>becoming a university of innovation and impact,<\/li>\n<li>creating a vibrant, interconnected community where people flourish, engagement thrives and wellbeing is prioritized, and<\/li>\n<li>fostering a dynamic and sustainable future.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-teams=\"true\"><span class=\"ui-provider a b c d e f g h i j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z ab ac ae af ag ah ai aj ak\" dir=\"ltr\">Furman has ranked among the\u00a0\u201cmost innovative\u201d universities in the country seven times since The Furman Advantage was implemented in 2017.\u00a0<\/span><\/span> In recent years, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/furman-advantage\/pathways-program\/\">Pathways Program<\/a>, a two-year program required for first-year and sophomore students that focuses on building personal skills and is steeped in mentorship, has received national accolades. Furman also launched the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/center-innovative-leadership\/\">Center for Innovative Leadership<\/a> to meet the needs of professionals and organizations.<\/p>\n<p>The incoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/facts-and-figures-for-the-furman-class-of-2028\/\">class of 2028<\/a> were chosen from almost 11,000 applications, an all-time high.
