Kelley scholarship, $1,000 for a graduate student with two years of successful teaching experience. She is a first grade teacher at Legacy Charter School\u2019s Elementary Campus in Greenville.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15950\" style=\"width: 160px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/newsimg.furman.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Grimmett.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15950\" class=\"wp-image-15950 size-thumbnail lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/218\/2022\/08\/Grimmett-thumbnail.jpg\" alt=\"Furman graduate student Lyndsey Grimmett\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 150px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 150\/150;\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-15950\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Furman graduate student Lyndsey Grimmett<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Using a variety of approaches to teach writing has led to outstanding results in Grimmett\u2019s classroom, said Stover, who also coordinates Furman\u2019s Graduate Program in Literacy Education. \u201cMs. Grimmett has observed great progress with her first graders\u2019 word recognition and motivation to engage in writing,\u201d Stover said. \u201cMany of her students now say that writing is their favorite subject!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Payne and Grimmett will be presented with their awards at the SCIRA conference in Myrtle Beach in February.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two Furman students were recently selected as recipients of scholarships from the South Carolina State Council of the International Reading Association.
