Verdin, a 1992 Furman University biology alumna, was unanimously elected by the South Carolina legislature to the state&#8217;s highest court on June 5. She will take Justice John Kittredge&#8217;s seat on the SC Supreme Court bench when he assumes the role of chief justice following the retirement of now Chief Justice Don Beatty on July 31, 2024. Verdin, a Court of Appeals judge, received her J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law. She is the third woman in South Carolina history to hold a Supreme Court seat.
