Ken Kolb, chair and professor of the Department of Sociology at Furman University, spoke to several news agencies about the collapse of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge after it was hit by a Singapore container ship. Kolb, who studies river piloting, spoke to FOX Carolina<\/a> during the 4 p.m. broadcast March 26<\/a>\u00a0and during the 6 a.m. broadcast March 27.<\/a> He also weighed in on WCBD-TV News 2<\/a> in Charleston. He told reporters that these type ships operate 24\/7, 365 days per year and accidents like these are rare. Kolb also said it was virtually impossible to steer a 1,000-foot ship weighing roughly 100,000 tons once it lost navigation power.<\/p>\n
