Empathy often begets philanthropy.<\/p>\n<p>Mary-Mitchell Campbell \u201996 dealt with her \u201cpretty challenging childhood\u201d by playing the piano, and the memories of a home lost to fire resulting a period of homelessness have never left her mind \u2013 or her actions.<\/p>\n<p>In college she founded a theatre company called the <a href=\"http:\/\/pauperplayers.tumblr.com\/\">Pauper Players<\/a>, which still exists, with the twist of having participants volunteer for a nonprofit cause. Now she\u2019s a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.broadwayworld.com\/people\/Mary-Mitchell-Campbell\/#.U_4LhPldWSo\">Broadway musical director<\/a> who also manages to run Artists Striving To End Poverty (<a href=\"https:\/\/asteponline.org\/2013\/\">ASTEP<\/a>), an organization she founded dedicated to \u201ctransforming the lives of youth using . . . their art.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Theatremania.com recently published a feature on Campbell\u2019s career and volunteer work.
