Hiram College Political Science Professor John C. Koritansky will speak on the topic, \u201cTocqueville on Civil Religion in America\u201d at 4:30 p.m. April 16 in Johns Hall Room 101 on the Furman University campus.<\/p>\n
The event is free and open to the public and is part of Furman\u2019s Cultural Life Program. Dr. Koritansky\u2019s lecture is presented by the Tocqueville Program at Furman University whose sponsors are Ginny and Sandy MacNeil, Beth and Ravenel Curry, and several private foundations.<\/p>\n
Koritansky has taught at Hiram College since 1970 and is chair of the college\u2019s Garfield Institute for Public Leadership, a position he has held since the Institute’s inaugural year in 2007. He has written several articles in the areas of American Constitutional law, American political thought and political philosophy. He is also the editor of and major contributor to Public Administration in the United States<\/i>, a collection of readings dealing with both the history and political theory embedded in American public administration (Focus Publishing, 1999). Koritansky\u2019s book, Alexis de Tocqueville and the New Science of Politics <\/i>is in its second edition, published by Carolina Academic Press in 2010. He received his bachelor\u2019s degree from Cornell University and his Ph.D. from The University of Chicago.<\/p>\n
