Jennifer Schuessler explores the work by the Furman University English professor in piece she wrote for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/10\/14\/books\/hannah-crafts-biography-gregg-hecimovich.html\">The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the article, &#8220;Searching for America\u2019s First Black Woman Novelist,&#8221; Schuessler describes how Hecimovich knits together Hannah Crafts&#8217;s story and her escape from slavery based on a manuscript that was lost for more than 150 years. In an event celebrating the book, Hecimovich will be in conversation with Greenville Poet Laureate Glenis Redmond Monday, Oct. 30, 5:30-7 p.m. at M.
