Hecimovich’s book is due out Oct. 17, 2023.<\/p><\/div>\n

An upcoming book by Furman University’s Gregg Hecimovich, a professor of English, draws accolades from national news outlets. “The Life and Times of Hannah Crafts: The True Story of the Bondwoman’s Narrative” (Ecco\/Harper Collins) is a story about America’s first known Black woman novelist. Already winning high marks from The Millions<\/a>, the book landed on the Los Angeles Times<\/a>‘ “30 books we can\u2019t wait to read this fall.”<\/p>\n

Publishers Weekly<\/a> describes the tome as “part literary detective story, part suspenseful escape narrative … this impressive account ties together its many disparate threads into a riveting whole. It\u2019s a must-read.”<\/p>\n

Kirkus Reviews<\/a> dubs the book “an absorbing work of historical and literary excavation.”<\/p>\n

In the St. Louis Post-Dispatch<\/a>, “The Life and Times of Hannah Crafts” scores a spot on “40 new books for fall reading: Choices for everyone.”<\/p>\n

Hecimovich’s book is due out Oct. 17. A Cultural Life Program event about Hannah Crafts is set for Thursday, Nov. 16, at 5 p.m. in McEachern Lecture Hall on campus.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
