Danielle Vinson, a Furman University alumna and politics and international affairs professor, offered her insights. She joined other political observers across the state in the what-if scenario for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestate.com\/news\/politics-government\/article276446061.html\">The State<\/a>. The article by Joseph Bustos also appeared in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heraldonline.com\/news\/politics-government\/article276446061.html\">The Herald<\/a> (Rock Hill).<\/p>\n<p>Coming in at No. 5 was North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum. \u201cIt may be the only time we get to mention him, and his chances seem about as good as all the others whose names we wouldn\u2019t recognize if the election were held today,\u201d Vinson said.<\/p>\n<p>Nikki Haley took the No. 4 spot, and it was Tim Scott at No. 3. Vinson said, \u201cHe\u2019s a happy alternative for those who aren\u2019t just interested in style or culture wars. He really hasn\u2019t taken any positions that would alienate South Carolina voters. And he has money.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Taking the No. 2 and No. 1 spots were Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former President Donald Trump, respectively. \u201cUntil he\u2019s not leading all the polls, he\u2019s the favorite,\u201d Vinson said about Trump who has been indicted on federal charges and who is likely facing more charges in the near future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If the South Carolina Republican Presidential Primary were held today, how would current candidates rank?
