While each one is special, we are most fond of Guido van Helten’s Canvas Mural at 301 College Street. The photorealistic mural on the façade of the eight-story Canvas building features longtime Greenville resident and educator, Pearlie Harris, a Furman University alumna (master’s in 1983) who also received an honorary doctorate from Furman in 2022. Incidentally, the child pictured at Harris’s right is the daughter of Furman’s Shaniece Criss, associate professor of health sciences. The mural was commissioned to celebrate the 50th anniversary of desegregation of Greenville County Schools.

The Furman Department of Art also get props in the mural guide. The mural at Stax’s Original, 1704 Poinsett Highway, was crafted by Kate Furman and art students at Furman who invested in a months-long design process. It shows views of Greenville from the iconic restaurant, including Furman, the Blue Ridge Mountains and Poinsett Bridge.

Several murals grace the façades of buildings throughout Greenville.
