She said Joe Cunningham was the right kind of candidate for South Carolina governor, but he faced an uphill climb.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCunningham is exactly the kind of Democrat you\u2019d want to run in a conservative state, but we haven\u2019t had any close statewide elections in years,&#8221; Vinson said. &#8220;And Democratic voters in the state feel like it\u2019s a lost cause.
