{"id":2139,"date":"2014-03-31T19:11:35","date_gmt":"2014-03-31T23:11:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/2019\/05\/19\/furman-hosts-womensgender-studies-conference-april-4-5\/"},"modified":"2022-11-07T18:02:28","modified_gmt":"2022-11-07T23:02:28","slug":"furman-hosts-womensgender-studies-conference-april-4-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/furman-hosts-womensgender-studies-conference-april-4-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Furman hosts ACS Women&#8217;s\/Gender Studies conference April 4-5"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/218\/2022\/08\/gender-studies-conference.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-10734 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/218\/2022\/08\/gender-studies-conference.jpg\" alt=\"gender-studies-conference\" width=\"275\" height=\"325\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 275px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 275\/325;\" \/><\/a>Furman University will host the 10th Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) conference on Women\u2019s\/Gender Studies April 4-5.<\/p>\n<p>The two-day conference, \u201cIntersections and Assemblages: Genders and Sexualities Across Cultures,\u201d will take place primarily in Hipp Hall and Johns Hall on campus.<\/p>\n<p>While conference attendance requires a registration fee of $110 for faculty\/staff and $50 for students, there are two events that are free and open to the public.<\/p>\n<p>These include the keynote address, \u201cAngry White Men: An Intersectional Analysis of Gender on the Extreme Right,\u201d by Dr. Michael Kimmel, Distinguished Professor of Sociology at Stony Brook University.\u00a0 His talk begins at 6 p.m. in Watkins Room of the Trone Student Center.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, April 5 at 3:30 p.m. in McEachern Auditorium (Room 214) of Furman Hall, the plenary session titled \u201cBodies, Borders, Citizenships\u201d is also open to the public without charge.\u00a0 This session, which marks the formal inauguration of the LGBTIQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersexed, Queer) Resource Room at Furman, will include addresses by Dr. Sujata Moorti (Middlebury College) and Dr. William J.
