She discovered that while most people have favorable attitudes about flexible work and the people who request it, they mistakenly believe other people hold unfavorable attitudes. As a result, people tend to publicly express unfavorable attitudes toward flexible work situations despite their personal beliefs.<\/p>\n<p>Munsch, along with Stanford sociologist Cecilia Ridgeway and UC Hastings Law Professor Joan Williams, completed a series of experiments to better understand the mechanisms producing the flexibility stigma\u2014along with possible solutions for lessening it. Their findings were published in the February issue of\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/wox.sagepub.com\/content\/41\/1\/40.full.pdf+html\"><strong>Work &amp; Occupations<\/strong><\/a><\/em>\u00a0and in Stanford University\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/gender.stanford.edu\/news\/2014\/pluralistic-ignorance-drives-stigma-against-flexible-work?utm_source=Feb.+18%2C+2014&amp;utm_campaign=2%2F18%2F2014+Gender+News+email&amp;utm_medium\"><strong><i>Gender News<\/i><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Munsch joined the Furman sociology faculty this fall.\u00a0 A graduate of the University of Virginia, she holds a M.S. degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Ph.D. from Cornell University.\u00a0 She completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at Stanford\u2019s Michelle R. Clayman Institute for Gender Research.
