Dr. Kristy Maher<\/p><\/div>\n

GREENVILLE, S.C.\u2014Kristy Maher, professor of sociology at Furman University, will speak on \u201cWhat Really Matters?\u201d Thursday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. in Furman\u2019s Daniel Chapel.<\/p>\n

Her talk, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by Furman\u2019s Chaplains Office and is part of the L.D. Johnson Lecture Series.<\/p>\n

Maher has been a member of the Furman sociology faculty since 1993.\u00a0 She teaches and conducts research in the areas of medical sociology, sociology of gender, statistics and global health, and has also served as chair of the sociology department.<\/p>\n

Maher has held fellowships at the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and Dartmouth University.\u00a0 She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Piedmont Health Care Foundation, and has been a member of Greenville Hospital Advisory Council.\u00a0 A graduate of St. Michael\u2019s College in Vermont, she holds M.A., M. Phil and Ph.D. degrees from Yale University.<\/p>\n

The L.D. Johnson Memorial Lecture Series was established in honor of the late L.D. Johnson, who served as chaplain and professor of religion at Furman for nearly 15 years before his death in 1981. He was also pastor of First Baptist Church of Greenville.<\/p>\n
