Children from nearby areas will visit campus to celebrate Halloween and enjoy activities including face painting, cookie decorating, carnival rides and trick-or-treating.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost of these kids can\u2019t trick or treat in their own neighborhoods,\u201d says Nancy Cooper, the Coordinator for Volunteer Services. \u201cFall Fest gives them a chance to enjoy the holiday in a safe and fun atmosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Furman has been holding Fall Fest since 2008, when the university changed from its May Day program after implementing the semester-based academic calendar.<\/p>\n<p>The event is organized between Furman and several local elementary schools where Furman students volunteer. This year, more than 800 students from Armstrong, Alexander, Berea, Monaview, and Duncan Chapel elementary schools are expected to attend, giving Furman students the opportunity to volunteer to help run the activities and also serve as escorts for the kids.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt truly is a community effort,\u201d says Mrs. Cooper. \u201cRight now we have over 220 volunteers, but, of course, we could always use more.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fall Fest will take place on E-field next to South Housing from 2 to 5 p.m. Students who wish to volunteer should contact the Heller Service Corps office on the top floor of the Trone Student Center.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This Saturday, Furman will host Fall Fest, an annual event organized by Heller Service Corps.
