Furman shook off a slow first half to defeat Elon 49-0 Saturday before a large Family Weekend crowd at Roberts Field.<\/p>\n
The feisty Elon team spent much of the first half in Furman\u2019s end but could not muster a score. The sporadic Furman offense did manage to score on the few occasions it advanced deep into Phoenix territory.<\/p>\n
The halftime score was 15-0 Furman. In the second half, the Paladins made some adjustments and began to open up play.<\/p>\n
The trys began to come in droves as the Furman team scored consistently and often. Most of the trys were scored by backline players.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnce again, we started slow,\u201d said Furman Coach John Roberts. \u201cWe don\u2019t have a dominant team, but we make adjustments well and have been able to wear some teams down. I am really proud of our defense. Elon knocked on the door a lot, but we managed to keep them out.”<\/p>\n
The team is 3-0 and has defeated its first three opponents by a combined score of 189-15. The Paladins have scored 134 of those points in the second half.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
