Need a new T-shirt? Want to help your community? Search no further than the Shamrock 5k Run, hosted by the Kappa Delta sorority 2 p.m., Sunday.<\/p>\n
Run, walk, or simply take home the T-shirt from this event to support Greenville\u2019s Julie Valentine Center, while helping the national cause of Prevent Child Abuse America. This year, Kappa Delta is trying to raise $10,000, an ambitious goal after raising a record-high\u00a0$8,000 last November.<\/p>\n
The Julie Valentine Center helps victims of rape and abuse in Greenville by providing counseling and housing, as well as emotional and monetary support. The center, named after a deceased infant found in Greenville in\u00a0February\u00a01990, aims to end child abuse, but is suffering itself from underfunding. You can help the center and victims of sexual or physical assault by signing up for the\u00a0race.<\/p>\n
The course begins at Paladin Stadium and offers a challenging and competitive route through the campus.\u00a0Prizes will be awarded to the winners, but each entrant has the opportunity to win in a post-race raffle. Prizes include gift cards and meals from such establishments as Mellow Mushroom, Stax, Mojo\u2019s, Pink Bee, Monkey\u2019s, Fleet Feet, and more.<\/p>\n
A\u00a0registration table will be set up\u00a011 a.m. to 2 p.m. today through Friday in the University Center.\u00a0The registration fee is $15.\u00a0Participants may also sign up 1 p.m. Sunday at the stadium.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
