The opening concert of the Furman Faculty Chamber Music Series will be performed on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. in Daniel Recital Hall on campus. A reception will follow the event.<\/p>\n
The concert is open to the public. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 for students.<\/p>\n
Hosted by Furman music professor Laura Kennedy, this 90-minute recital will present the music of Benjamin Britten, Gabriel Faur\u00e9, Morton Gould, Darius Milhaud, Miles Davis and Eddie Harris.<\/p>\n
Eighteen faculty members will present selections including \u201cSongs from the Chinese,\u201d Faur\u00e9\u2019s Piano Trio, op. 120, \u201cBenny\u2019s Gig,\u201d \u201cCatalogue des Fleurs,\u201d and jazz numbers, \u201cSo What\u201d and \u201cFreedom Jazz Dance.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kennedy joined the Furman faculty in 2012. She is a musicologist specializing in twentieth-century music and Russian studies. Born in Michigan, Kennedy moved to the island of Guernsey (Great Britain) as a teenager, where she studied under faculty from the Royal College of Music in London, and attended music courses at Oxford University. She holds a bachelor\u2019s in music from Wheaton and a Ph.D. in historical musicology from the University of Michigan. Kennedy’s research has been supported by numerous grants and fellowships, including a Fulbright Fellowship to Russia and Rackham Humanities Research and Dissertation Fellowships.<\/p>\n
