{"id":1292,"date":"2016-02-17T19:42:16","date_gmt":"2016-02-18T00:42:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/2016\/02\/17\/furman-trustees-meet-saturday\/"},"modified":"2022-11-07T14:21:22","modified_gmt":"2022-11-07T19:21:22","slug":"furman-trustees-meet-saturday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/news\/furman-trustees-meet-saturday\/","title":{"rendered":"Furman trustees meet Saturday"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"attachment_6677\" style=\"width: 424px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/newsimg.furman.edu.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/trustees-group.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6677\" class=\"size-full wp-image-6677 lazyload\" title=\"trustees-group\" data-src=\"http:\/\/newsimg.furman.edu.s3.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/trustees-group.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"414\" height=\"273\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 414px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 414\/273;\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6677\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Furman trustees were on campus Saturday for their spring meeting.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>GREENVILLE, S.C.\u2014During its spring meeting Saturday, the Furman University Board of Trustees approved promotions and\/or tenure for 14 faculty members and recognized the contributions of three board members whose terms will expire this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Those promoted to the rank of full Professor were Lourdes Many\u00e9 (Modern Languages and Literatures) and Jeffrey Yankow (Economics).<\/p>\n<p>Professor Hugh Floyd (Music) was granted tenure.<\/p>\n<p>Those receiving tenure and promoted to the rank of Associate Professor were Temenuzhka Bidjerano (Education), Teresa Cosby (Political Science), Sarah Frick (Mathematics), David Hollis (Biology), Alicia Powers (Health Sciences), Ilka Rasch (Modern Languages and Literatures), Onarae Rice (Psychology), Roger Sneed (Religion), Cinnamon Stetler (Psychology) and Dake Wang (Physics).<\/p>\n<p>Caroline Mills was promoted to the rank of Associate Librarian.<\/p>\n<p>The board also granted emeritus status to four retiring professors \u2014 Maurice Cherry (Modern Languages and Literatures), David Redburn (Sociology), David Shaner (Philosophy) and John Shelley (Religion).<\/p>\n<p>All promotions, tenure and emeritus status become effective Aug. 1.<\/p>\n<p>The board recognized three trustees whose terms will expire June 30.\u00a0 Those leaving the board are Sean Hartness, Rick Timmons and Baxter Wynn, all of Greenville.<\/p>\n<p>In other action, the trustees approved a resolution to begin phase II of the Trone Student Center renovation.\u00a0 Phase I of the project was completed in the winter, while phase II will begin this summer and be completed by the beginning of the fall semester.<\/p>\n<p>The trustees also heard that the $400 million \u201cBecause Furman Matters\u201d campaign now stands at $382 million.\u00a0 The campaign will conclude at the end of December.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, contact Furman\u2019s News and Media Relations office at 864-294-3107.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>During its spring meeting Saturday, the Furman Board of Trustees approved promotions and\/or tenure for 14 faculty members and recognized the contributions of three board members whose terms will expire this summer.
