It is sponsored by Furman\u2019s Women\u2019s, Gender, &amp; Sexuality Studies and the Humanities Development Fund. The event is part of Furman\u2019s Cultural Life Program.<\/p>\n<p>Currah is a prominent academic at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, and executive director of its Lesbian and Gay Studies Center. In his current research, Currah looks at how states classify sex, focusing on the contradictions in definitions of sex (as in male and female) from jurisdiction to jurisdiction and agency to agency. He has also written widely on the transgender rights movement in the United States. His teaching interests include sexuality and gender studies, queer legal theory, public policy, constitutional law, and political theory, including contemporary political thought, biopolitics and surveillance studies.<\/p>\n<p>With Monica J. Casper, Currah has written <em>Corpus: An Interdisciplinary Reader on Bodies and Knowledge<\/em>.
