Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.<\/p>\n<p>For the program, arrangements by Applegate, John Clayton, Cole Porter, Wayne Shorter and others will be performed.<\/p>\n<p>A versatile composer and arranger, Applegate has written commissions for jazz artists, university jazz and classical ensembles, and professional chamber groups. He was awarded an Individual Artist Grant from the Colorado Council on the Arts for his \u201cWalt Whitman Jazz Suite\u201d and won a Down Beat Student Music Award for best original composition.<\/p>\n<p>His first CD as a leader,\u00a0\u201cRed Skies,\u201d showcases Applegate\u2019s playing and songwriting in a quartet setting. Applegate can also be heard on Dana Landry\u2019s Grammy-nominated CD\u00a0\u201cJourney Home\u201d\u00a0(Summit Records), Don Aliquo\u2019s\u00a0\u201cAnother Reply\u201d\u00a0(CAP Records), and Ken and Harry Watters\u2019\u00a0\u201cBrothers 3\u201d\u00a0(Summit Records), all of which reached the top 30 on the Jazz Week U.S. airplay chart.<\/p>\n<p>Applegate is professor of Jazz Studies at the University of Northern Colorado, where he was named the College of Performing and Visual Arts\u00a0Scholar of the Year\u00a0for 2009-10.
