Thompson was trained in plant physiology, but her focus today is ethnobotany, or the relationships between people and plants. Whether she is inside her food laboratory or outside in her fiber and dye garden, Thompson’s goal is to help students learn about plants—and discover more about themselves along the way. Thompson and her work at Furman were featured in the Winter 2013 edition of The Duke Endowment newsletter.
